The Price of Tango: Part 1, Going Green

7 Jul

Holy Cow! Its crazy expensive to go out social dancing!…

After seeing my cash disappear week after week, I took a long hard look at the milongas and social dancing opportunities in the Bay Area.  My solution? I’m taking a page out of the green manifesto: I’m staying local.

When I go dancing in San Francisco, I’m subject to high travel expenses, which means the easiest way to cut back on my costs (and carbon emissions) is to stay local.

The most obvious drawback is less time with all the beautiful people in SF.  The upside is that I’ll be investing in mi barrio: Berkeley.  Because I’ll be driving less, (saving the planet Smug Alert!) I’ll meet more people in my area, building my local network of friends, dancers, and students.   What a surprise! Sustainability can be applied to anything.  Staying local is the best way for me to keep dancing, save cash, build my community, and help the planet.  From now on I’m making a commitment to dance in Berkeley.

What’s not to like?

Best,

Nicholas Tapia
